What happened to the border fence?

According to The Washington Times; on December 17, Congress "passed a giant new spending bill that undermines current plans for a U.S.-Mexico border fence..."

You read that right!  Nancy Pelosi and her gang of liberals in Washington D.C., under the cover of darkness, GUTTED THE BORDER FENCE.

And conservative legislators are hopping mad.

According to Congressman Duncan Hunter, this omnibus spending bill technically eliminates any requirement for "physical barriers or fencing along the border."

"This action basically repeals the Secure Fence Act (of 2006) and undermines past efforts to secure our nation's borders."

House Minority Leader John Boehner said:

"The fact that this was buried in a bloated, 3,500-page omnibus speaks volumes about the Democrats' unserious approach on border security and illegal immigration.  Gutting the Secure Fence Act will make our borders less secure, but it's consistent with the pattern of behavior we've seen all year from this majority." [Emphasis Mine]

And Congressman Peter King (R-NY) commented:

"This is either a blatant oversight or a deliberate attempt to disregard the border security of our country. As it's currently written, the omnibus language guts the Secure Fence Act almost entirely. Quite simply, it is unacceptable."

But that's not the whole story.

Not only did Nancy Pelosi and her gang gut the border fence, this monstrous omnibus spending bill ALSO GIVES 10 MILLION DOLLARS OF YOUR HARD-EARNED TAX DOLLARS TO ATTORNEYS OF ILLEGAL ALIENS!

According to CNS News:

"House Republican Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri said the bill is full of 'misguided' policy decisions: 'On one page, for instance, you will find a set of new restrictions on the construction of our security fence along the border; on another, $10 million in 'emergency' funding for attorneys of illegal immigrants.'" [Emphasis Mine]

"'Along with those, you'll even find language gutting a Senate-passed provision encouraging English in the workplace. And as we continue to cull through the text, that may prove to be just the tip of the iceberg,' Blunt complained." [Emphasis Mine]

We're Not Going To Take This Lying Down!

Despite the devious efforts of our so-called elected leaders in Washington, we can win this battle.  We will get that fence funded and built.

In fact, because of your direct efforts, in 2007... because of your Blast Faxes, calls and letters... because you were willing to lay so much on the line... you won a host of battles the pundits said could not be won.

Here are just a few:

Last year, the political insiders said legislation that would grant amnesty to 12-20 million illegal aliens was a done deal.  You took immediate and direct action and defeated it -- not once, but several times.

And when our elected officials could not pass an amnesty bill in broad daylight, they tried to pass an amnesty bill -- The DREAM Act -- through the back door, under the cover of darkness.  The pundits said you couldn't stop it... but you took immediate action and defeated that too!

Recently, the United States Senate tried to ratify the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST), which would have granted control of two-thirds of the earth's surface to a United Nations.  The mainstream media called it a done deal... but you stopped those plans cold!

Liberals, in an effort to silence conservative talk-radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, tried to impose the so-called Fairness Doctrine on the American people.  But you acted quickly and shut those plans down too!

And let's not forget about the confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court .  When liberals geared up to block these nominations and it looked like some spineless Republicans in the Senate would cave-in, you gave them the back-bone they needed!

You should be proud.  The world would be a very different and not so pleasant place had you not heard the call and taken action!

But when it comes to securing our borders and enacting sensible immigration policy, now is not the time to rest on our past accomplishments.

If we see this battle through to the end and if you act now, we can win once again!

Securing The Border Is Only The First Step

Let's not forget that 12-20 million illegal aliens are still in major cities and small towns all over America -- and that thousands more are pouring across our borders EVERY SINGLE DAY!

And what is it costing us?

Here are a few figures compiled by the Center for Immigration Studies to show what illegal alien families are actually costing hard-working American families:

Medicaid -- medical care for the indigent -- costs American taxpayers like you and me $2.5 billion per year;

treatment for uninsured illegals costs us another $2.2 billion;

food assistance programs such as food stamps; the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children; and free school lunches cost working Americans $1.9 billion;

the illegal aliens' share of federal aid to schools amounts to $1.4 billion.

In 2002, families headed by illegal aliens cost us in excess $26.3 billion.  You can imagine what it must cost in 2007.

Oh yes, and Immigrationcounters.com has estimated the cost of Social Security Services for illegal aliens since 1996 at a whopping $397,440,210,000.00.

And we're NOT talking about government aid to LEGAL IMMIGRANTS!  We're talking about benefits being given to those who should not be here in the first place!

A billion here... a billion there... pretty soon it adds up to real money.

And the problem will only get worse until our border is secure! 

We Have To Keep Their Feet To The Fire!

In today's post-9/11 world, it seems that everyone except our so-called leaders in Washington understands that securing our borders is a national security issue. 

For too long, our government has looked the other way as thousands of illegals have crossed our borders each and every day. 

In fact, we don't know who is coming or going in this country.  And make no mistake; the terrorists, drug smugglers and other criminals who continue to exploit our porous borders know it!

But instead of working to secure our borders, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and others in Congress decided to gut the border fence in the dark of night... thinking the American people would never notice.

Congressman Duncan Hunter said it best when he responded to the Democrats Omnibus Spending Bill, which included the border fence provision:

"By eliminating the double fence requirement, the Democratic Congress is going to make it easier for drug and human smugglers to cross our Southern land border. This goes against the interests of any family that has been touched by illegal drugs or any American who has seen their job taken by an illegal alien."

"The success of the San Diego Border Fence demonstrates the overall effectiveness of the double-layered approach and the importance of extending this infrastructure across our Southern land border.  Vehicle barriers that are five feet high will do little, if anything, to stop illegal entry.      

"Pulling back from the double fence mandate is a prescription for failure that will only allow more smugglers, criminals and illegal aliens to enter the United States through our land border with Mexico.  If enacted, this legislation would represent a significant step backwards in the effort to secure our borders."

We must stop the flow of illegal aliens into our country -- we must not let liberals in Congress get away with undermining the will of the American people.
