UPDATE: Berkeley, California city officials met Tuesday night and REFUSED to issue an apology to the Marines!
The City Council -- after hearing criticism from you and tens of thousands of your fellow patriotic Americans -- did however vote to rescind the letter they approved a couple of weeks ago calling the Marines "uninvited and unwelcome intruders."
But if they really supported our troops, why did they VOTE DOWN a motion to apologize to the Marines and why are they continuing to sanction the harassment of our brave men and women in uniform? Berkeley leaders -- and other lefty city officials across America -- need to know that half-hearted actions and crocodile tears simply are not enough! We need to intensify our campaign in support of Senator Jim DeMint's legislation to cut off Berkeley's earmarks and give them instead to the Marines. Tell them to back Senator DeMint's bill to strip all the earmarks and boondoggles Nancy Pelosi and other left-wing Congressmen have given Berkeley. Demand that these funds be given instead to the Marines, who have bled and died to protect our freedoms. http://www.cfiflistmanager.org/berkeley2be.html AOL Members Use This Hyperlink If the hyperlink above does not function, copy and paste it into the address bar of your browser.
A "Slap In The Face" To Our Brave Service Men and Women Some of us are old enough to remember how many Marines died at Iwo Jima and gave their lives so the people of Berkeley could wave obscene placards and shout four-letter words. So when the Berkeley City Council voted to send a letter to U.S. Marine recruiters telling them they were "not welcome in the city, if recruiters choose to stay, they do as uninvited and unwelcome intruders," it proved once again that city's blatant disrespect for the brave men and women in uniform who unselfishly protect all of our freedoms. However, this time the target is unmistakable: It IS the troops they despise, not the Republican Party or George W. Bush or the war. And, needless to say, patriotic Americans everywhere are outraged. Senator Jim DeMint expressed that outrage when he said: "This is a slap in the face to all brave service men and women and their families. The First Amendment gives the City of Berkeley the right to be idiotic, but from now on they should do it with their own money. If the city can't show respect for the Marines that have fought, bled and died for their freedom, Berkeley should not be receiving special taxpayer funded handouts." But Senator DeMint didn't merely speak his mind. Since Berkeley's life's blood is federal handouts, Senator DeMint wants to hit them where it hurts and has introduced the "Semper Fi Act of 2008," which will specifically take $2.1 million in federal government earmarks and pork from Berkeley and give it directly to the Marines. "I am currently drafting legislation to ensure that American taxpayers aren't forced to pay for this insult by rescinding all of the earmarks for Berkeley in the Omnibus Appropriations bill, and to transfer the funds to the Marine Corps." Yes, the Berkeley City Council, after hearing from concerned Americans across the country like you, did back down and decided not to send the letter. However, when some pushed the Council to issue a formal apology to the Marines, the Council rejected the idea. "We Oppose The War But Support The Troops" And Other Liberals Lies... Council Members Betty Olds and Laurie Capitelli -- realizing that the City Council went too far -- proposed the motion to rescind the resolution calling the Marines "uninvited and unwelcome intruders."
But does Olds really mean it... is she really sorry?
The Chronicle also pointed out: "However, the item from Olds and Capitelli would leave intact related items that passed two weeks ago: calling on residents to impede the work of any recruiting station in the city, asking the city attorney to find out if the Marines are violating city anti-discrimination laws and giving a parking space and a sound permit to Code Pink." Half-hearted measures and crocodile tears simply aren't going to cut it.
These liberals need to understand that when it comes to supporting our troops, the American people mean business! More Berkeley Radicals... Members of the City Council aren't the only radicals in Berkeley. Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates has appeared proudly in a video with Code Pink, blocking the entrance to the military recruiting station. On the video he screams, "They don't belong here, they shouldn't have come here, and they should leave." Well guess what Mayor Bates, our federal tax dollars don't belong there, should not have gone there and should leave. She flippantly told the media: "There's been this wonderfully out-of-proportion, knee-jerk response. It's clever, inflammatory and symbolic." And here -- courtesy of the Chronicle -- is what an aide to Mayor Bates, Julie Sinai, said about Senator DeMint's "Semper Fi Act of 2008:" "But Sinai said the attempts by DeMint... are only 'a media play' and won't go anywhere.
I think it's time we show these leftists just HOW SERIOUS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE! Use the link below to send your urgent and personalized Blast Fax messages to President George W.
