UPDATE:  Your calls and Blast Faxes are already having an effect!

When it comes to stopping the draconian Liberal assault on our First Amendment rights falsely known as the "Fairness Doctrine," conservative legislators are starting to talk the talk.

On Wednesday, Senator Mitch McConnell made the following bold statement;

"I will not support efforts to restrict free speech, silence political voices, and limit the free flow of information through legislative 'fixes' like the so-called 'Fairness Doctrine.' Unlike the totalitarian state depicted in Orwell's 1984, ours is not a state controlled by a Ministry of Truth with a speech police telling our citizens what we can and cannot say and hear. Let's keep it that way."

But that's not all...  McConnell went on to say;

"Every high school student in America knows the book '1984,' George Orwell's classic novel about a totalitarian state that controls its people by pounding them with slogans that contradict reality: peace is war, ignorance is strength, freedom is slavery. The phrases have changed, but the effort to control people through manipulative speech hasn't. Recent talk by liberals in Congress about reviving the so-called 'Fairness Doctrine' is solid proof of that."

But McConnell isn't the only one talking tough.

Senator James Inhofe announced that he will introduce legislation in the Senate which -- like Congressman Mike Pence's  "Broadcaster Freedom Act" in the House of Representatives -- will outlaw the return of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine."

Inhofe didn't mince words and said the following in reference to the "Fairness Doctrine."

"Not only would [radio talk show host] Sean Hannity be off the air, but he'd have to financially support public radio."

Yes... our conservative legislators may be talking the talk... but if we want them to walk the walk, they need to hear from us... there MUST be a ground-swell and they MUST hear from you RIGHT NOW!

"Our massive strategy was to use the Fairness Doctrine to challenge and harass right-wing broadcasters and hope the challenges would be so costly to them that they would be inhibited and decide it was too expensive to continue."

Those were the words of Bill Ruder, President John F. Kennedy's Assistant Secretary of Commerce.

And the Left gave this federal policy a high-sounding name: "the Fairness Doctrine."

But it was anything but fair.

It was draconian.

AND NOW DEMOCRATS AND RINOS (Republicans in Name Only) ARE TRYING TO BRING IT BACK!

They think that if they can silence talk radio... if they can silence Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity... they can silence us too... and in the end... THEY THINK THEY CAN SILENCE YOU!

According to the Heritage Foundation, the so-called "Fairness Doctrine":

"... puts immense power into the hands of federal regulators. And in fact, the fairness doctrine was used by both the Kennedy and Nixon Administrations to limit political opposition.  Telecommunications scholar Thomas W. Hazlett notes that under the Nixon Administration, 'License harassment of stations considered unfriendly to the Administration became a regular item on the agenda at White House policy meetings.'"

If the Left had been bound by a Truth in Packaging law, they would have had to call it "the Hush-Rush Doctrine" -- because they blame Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and other talk-radio hosts for mustering conservative opposition to the Senate amnesty for illegal aliens bill.

In the wake of the amnesty debate, Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Cal.), Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), Howard Dean (Chairman, Democratic National Committee), and even Trent Lott (R-Miss.) all suggested that the Fairness Doctrine be considered or reinstated once again.

Senator Dianne Feinstein told Chris Wallace of Fox News"Well, I'm looking at it, as a matter of fact, Chris, because I think there ought to be an opportunity to present the other side. And unfortunately, talk radio is overwhelmingly one way."

"It's time to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine," said Senator Durbin

Howard Dean said: "We need to re-regulate the media."

And Trent Lott who pads around Capitol Hill, disguised as a conservative thundered: "Talk radio is running America... We have to deal with that problem."

These are just the most outspoken.  It would seem that most Democrats and RINOs would support a bill that will allow them to run Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham off the air by hassling radio stations that carry their programs.

We can stop that from ever happening.  But only if we act now!

Let's look at the history of this Orwellian legislation, which is designed to establish Political Correctness as the Law of the Land.

The so-called "Fairness Doctrine" was instituted in 1949.  It was supposedly designed to guarantee balanced coverage of the news by forcing stations to air opposing views.

Did it work?

During the 38 years before its repeal, television remained unashamedly, monolithically left-wing.

From 1968 to 1981, left-leaning Walter Cronkite slanted the news for CBS five nights a week and no one was EVER given equal time.

In 1987, then-President Ronald Reagan -- who genuinely believed in the First Amendment -- put an end to the Fairness Doctrine, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE AIRWAYS WERE DOMINATED BY THE LEFT.

Today -- despite the fact that CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, and MSNBC are still liberal opinion mills -- conservatives Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and a host of others have attracted huge audiences.

On the other hand, Air America -- the Left's answer to conservative talk radio -- failed to attract more than a handful of listeners and had to declare bankruptcy!

In the free market of ideas, the Left can't sell its worn-out merchandise.  The only viable option then is the eradication of opposing ideas.

So in 1949 -- with the Democrats in control of the major media, both houses of Congress, and the White House -- why did the Left pass such a bill?

Because even then, listeners could find a few conservatives on radio -- and Leftists knew they could use their political power to harass conservative broadcasters and shield liberals like Cronkite

Now they want to do it again!  To gag conservatives!  To hush Rush!  To return to "the good old days" when only left-wing voices were permitted over the airways.

            Don't let them go there!

Silencing disagreement has been a major goal of the Left for the past 40 years -- and in almost every area of our society.

The push for the suppression of opposing views began in higher education, when Marxist professor Herbert Marcuse, in an essay called "Repressive Tolerance," proclaimed that in our universities "certain things cannot be said, certain ideas cannot be expressed, certain policies cannot be proposed, certain behavior cannot be permitted without making tolerance an instrument for the continuation of servitude."

That philosophy led to the end of freedom of expression on many U.S. campuses and, like a virus, has infected the thinking of several generations.

McCain-Feingold was designed specifically to repress political speech (unless it comes from the established media) during campaigns, particularly in the last 90 days before an election, when people start to pay attention to races.

Liberals have already introduced several bills designed to silence advocacy groups like the Center for Individual Freedom, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, National Rifle Association, and the National Right to Work Committee.

They have banned the Ten Commandments, manger scenes, and stars on Christmas trees, and prohibited the brightest high school kids from mentioning God in commencement speeches.

Hillary Clinton has called for control of the Internet.  Early on, she told the press the Internet needs "editing" and "gate keeping."

Senator Inhofe reported that he overheard Hillary Clinton and Barbara Boxer declare war on talk radio: "They said we've got to do something about this. These are nothing but far right-wing extremists. We've got to have a balance. There's got to be a legislative fix for this."

You have to wonder if some of these people are entirely rational.

For example, here's what John Kerry said on a New York talk show:

"I think the Fairness Doctrine ought to be there, and I also think equal time doctrine ought to come back.  These are the people that wiped out ... one of the most profound changes in the balance of the media is when the conservatives got rid of the equal time requirements and the result is that they have been able to squeeze down and squeeze out opinion of opposing views and I think its been a very important transition in the imbalance of our public eye."

Could he possibly believe this conspiratorial fairy tale?   Does he actually think that conservatives have somehow "squeezed out" liberal views from the media?

If so, how does he explain the fact that Charles Gibson is anchoring ABC News, Katie Couric is anchoring CBS News, Brian Williams is anchoring NBC News, and Wolf Blitzer is anchoring CNN, backed up by Bill Schneider,  his skewed polls, and his politically correct spin?

If Kerry believes this ideological fantasy, then he needs to check into the Betty Ford Clinic.  If not, then he's a shameless liar.

Of course, he's understandably angry with the current freedom of expression enjoyed by talk radio hosts, bloggers and advocacy groups.

During the 2004 presidential campaign, conservative broadcasters like Rush Limbaugh passed along damaging information about Kerry to the general public, truths that weren't even whispered about on ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN.

When Kerry insisted on showcasing his military career to embarrass President Bush -- whose National Guard service became a campaign issue -- bloggers dug around and uncovered ugly facts about Kerry's military service, his questionable Purple Hearts, and his disgraceful behavior after he returned home.

And a group of Vietnam Veterans -- some who even served with John Kerry -- bought ads, both in newspapers and on TV, and produced solid evidence that suggested Kerry was a coward and an opportunist.

They even produced a documentary (Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal) that only one syndicate, Sinclair Broadcasting, initially and bravely offered to air -- after most other left-wing media outlets refused.

But the program was never seen because bigwig lawyers threatened Sinclair with frivolous legal action... legal action designed to silence Sinclair... and they succeeded!

Don't let the Left fabricate urban legends to win this fight!

Because the American people have already reacted to this new threat to their First Amendment rights, advocates of the "Hush-Rush Doctrine" have begun to assure the public that no such thing will take place.

Congressman David Obey said of Congressman Pence's bill: "This issue is much ado about nothing."

Congresswoman Diane Watson (D-Cal) "I find this very odd, this situation we are in... this is a complete red herring."

And over in the Senate, Trent Lott is NOW saying that he didn't mean he would support the reinstitution of the Hush-Rush Doctrine, that he merely meant that sensible folks like him should do a better job of communicating with the public.

Don't believe Obey or Watson or Lott.   THERE IS CAUSE FOR GENUINE CONCERN.  Democrats and RINOS will revive this bill.

Craig Crawford, liberal news analyst for NBC, MSNBC and CNBC predicts that:

"Unless broadcasters take steps to voluntarily balance their programming, they can expect a return of fairness rules if Democrats keep control of Congress and win the White House next year."

We can't let this happen!  Help us pass Congressman Pence's bill, and we have locks on the future.
