FROM: YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS WILL APPEAR HERE
RE: Free Compean and Ramos!
Several days ago it was reported that the
Congressional Hispanic Caucus was blocking a
bi-partisan resolution by Congressmen Dana
Rohrabacher, William Delahunt and Silvestre Reyes to
release Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos.
Later, Congressman Joe Baca, the chairman of the
Congressional Hispanic Caucus stated;
“The CHC is not
opposing or blocking this resolution,”
and then added,
“It is very rare for any legislation to be brought
to House floor for immediate consideration.”
That's not good enough! The Congressional Hispanic
Caucus should be championing the cause of these two
border agents of Hispanic descent who proudly and
bravely served their country and tried to secure our
borders.
Stop playing politics with the lives of these brave
United States citizens of Hispanic decent! The
American people want the Delahunt-Rohrabacher-Reyes
resolution voted out of committee immediately!
Also, the Administration promised to look into the
case of Compean and Ramos a year ago. A few days
ago, the Administration released a list of those who
will obtain presidential pardons. Compean and Ramos
were not on the list. When asked why, White House
Spokesperson, Dana Perino said,
"Well, there's
processes in place for pardons, and those two
individuals, if they want to seek a pardon, they can
go through the process, as well."
"Processes?"
Mr. President, please keep the promise you made to
the American people a year ago. Review the case and
then pardon Compean and Ramos!
Sincerely,
Your Signature Will Be Recreated Here

UPDATE: When it comes to releasing wrongfully convicted border agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos, the wind has changed direction again!
As you know, several days ago, Congressmen Dana Rohrabacher, said the Congressional Hispanic Caucus was BLOCKING his resolution to release Compean and Ramos, the brave border agents who were wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for what Congressman Tom Tancredo described as "doing their job."
But now -- after hearing the righteous anger of the American people -- Congressman Joe Baca, the chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, has released a statement claiming, “The CHC is not opposing or blocking this resolution."
Of course, Congressman Rohrabacher -- the gentleman that he is and in the spirit of bi-partisanship -- has taken back his previous criticism and welcomes this development.
That just goes to show what can be done when we make our voices heard.
BUT...
Baca also added, “It is very rare for any legislation to be brought to House floor for immediate consideration.”
Frankly, THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH! THESE AGENTS MUST BE RELEASED NOW!
These are unusual circumstances. These brave border agents of Hispanic descent have been wrongfully imprisoned for a year for defending our border against a career illegal alien drug smuggler.
And the Congressional Hispanic Caucus SHOULD BE CHAMPIONING the case of these two public servants of Hispanic descent!
You and I can make that happen. We have the momentum, now is the time to drive the point home!

President Bush Released A List This Week Of Those He Is Pardoning. Guess Who Was Not On The List!
You read that right! President Bush just released a list this week of the people he is pardoning.
Compean and Ramos were NOT on the list!
According to Rohrabacher, President Bush's list of pardons includes "eight drug dealers" but not the "unjustly imprisoned Border Patrol agents."
Actually, President Bush granted 29 pardons and 1 sentence commutation. And since his presidency began, he has issued 142 pardons and 5 commutations.
29 wrongdoers are getting a pardon for Christmas... for Compean and Ramos, a lump of coal!
Rohrabacher added:
"The President's heartless ignoring of the fundamental miscarriage of justice in the case of agents Ramos and Compean... is a snub to the families and a slap in the face to millions of Americans who have pleaded with the president to show some mercy for Ramos and Compean... Instead he turns around and shows mercy to drug dealers and other criminals and leaves Ramos and Compean to suffer in solitary confinement."
When asked WHY Compean and Ramos did not receive a pardon, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said:
"Well, there's processes in place for pardons, and those two individuals, if they want to seek a pardon, they can go through the process, as well."
So, it's Compean and Ramos' fault they were not issued a pardon?
But wait a minute! Hold your horses! President Bush told the American people a YEAR AGO that he would review the case!
You might remember what Tony Snow said almost a year ago:
"What we're doing is getting the entire trial transcript so everybody can see what happened in trial, and we can try to discern the real facts of the case."
So what happened? Only the Administration can provide an answer!

"Processes," What Is Perino Talking About?
And what's this about "processes" in Perino's statement?
Article II, Section II of the United States Constitution reads:
"[The President] shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment."
Did you see anything in there about "processes?"
Neither did I!
Did President Gerald Ford go through any "processes" prior to pardoning President Richard Nixon -- a man who had not been charged or convicted of a crime at that point?
And what kind of "processes" did the President go through when he pardoned Lewis "Scooter" Libby?
Whatever they were -- in both cases -- the respective administrations went through them pretty dog-gone quick!
Sorry Ms. Perino, the Administration can not hide behind any phony arguments about process... a year has already passed!
It's time for these brave American heroes to go be released!

We Thought The American People Had This Licked!
Several months ago -- because of the pressure you brought to bear -- the Senate held hearings on the Ramos-Compean case.
The subcommittee examined evidence and listened to self-serving testimony from Johnny Sutton -- the strutting, bragging U.S. Attorney who threw the book at Agents Ramos and Compean as the rest of us gasped in disbelief.
And liberal Senator Dianne Feinstein's bipartisan committee concluded "that the sentence does not match the crime" in the case of agents Compean and Ramos.
Senator Feinstein herself said:
"The sentences of 11 years for Agent Ramos and 12 years for Agent Compean were significantly higher than for many other serious crimes... Ramos and Compean have now served six months in the federal penitentiary, and we would ask the President to review the case closely and commute the sentence."
Senator John Cornyn weighed in as well saying:
"It is incomprehensible to me that an illegal alien drug smuggler was allowed to violate his immunity agreement, perjure himself and be granted a series of unlimited visas... while two border patrol agents were given excessive prison sentences."
But that's not all;
Feinstein's Senate Subcommittee revealed that U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton furnished this dangerous criminal with a border pass that allowed him to enter the country AT LEAST TEN TIMES without inspection.
And although Sutton's office portrayed their "star witness" to the jury as a man beyond reproach... a victim of the system who only smuggled drugs into the United States just once to pay his poor sick mother's medical bills... it was well known that this drug smuggler was a dangerous career criminal!
Senator Cornyn offered into evidence a document indicating that the illegal alien smuggled drugs while making at least one of those allowed trips across the border.
There is no more excuse! Decency demands that our elected leaders do only one thing. Release these men TODAY.
Now is not the time to give up this fight. Compean and Ramos will be released as long as we don't allow our elected officials to think that WE'VE FORGOTTEN!
These brave American heroes should not spend another day in prison!
