Barack Obama must either VETO the massive "porkulus" bill passed by the Pelosi-Reid Congress or freely admit that he has NOT been telling the American people the truth!

He has no other choice... no way out!

Unless, of course, we do not hold him accountable to his words!

Days after being elected, Obama promised to CUT billions of dollars in wasteful government spending, not INCREASE wasteful government spending by billions!

On November 25, 2009, Reuters ran the following story on that promise:

"CHICAGO (Reuters) - President-elect Barack Obama vowed on Tuesday to cut billions of dollars from wasteful government programs as he sought to reassure Americans anxious about a growing mountain of debt and a faltering economy."

"Obama held a second news conference in Chicago in two days, and planned a third for 10:45 a.m. EST (1545 GMT) Wednesday, seeking to calm see-sawing financial markets looking for signs that his incoming administration has a viable plan to tackle the worst economic crisis in decades."

Reuters went on and quoted Obama:

"We cannot sustain a system that bleeds billions of taxpayer dollars on programs that have outlived their usefulness or exist solely because of the power of a politician, lobbyist or interest group."

Of course, President Obama claims there is no pork or earmarks in this "porkulus" bill, but that simply isn't true.

The bill is almost exclusively a pork package. Money is being allocated to a Los Angeles to Las Vegas Express Train... billions of dollars for community activist groups like ACORN... "earthquake studies" ... $1.6 Billion allocated simply to "science" ... the list goes on.

Barack Obama will attempt to sign this bill as soon as humanly possible... probably in a matter of hours.

If so, we need to send our political leaders a clear message right now.

Obama must VETO this bill or freely admit to the American people that he does not tell the truth!

Let them know that Barack Obama promised to give the American public an opportunity to review and comment on legislation on the White House website for five days before signing a bill into law.

This massive 600 page porkulus bill, went to conference committee and was changed (under the cover of darkness and without input from Republicans conferees) into a 1,100 page monster of a bill, and the Pelosi-Reid Congress passed this monstrosity within 24-hours of the release of the full text of the bill. Obviously no one - including Members of the House or Senate - had time to even read this bill before voting on it.

This is not "sunshine" or "transparency." Demand that Barack Obama keep the campaign promise that is STILL posted to his campaign website and either VETO this massive porkulus bill or admit that he did not tell the truth to the American people.

Let The Sunshine In.

Cutting wasteful spending doesn't appear to be the only campaign promise Obama DOES NOT intend to keep.

It would appear his promises of "sunshine" and "transparency" were short-lived as well!

The following is still posted prominently on Obama's campaign website:

“Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president, Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.”

Review and comment... let's see how that works.

The House and the Senate passed the "porkulus" bill on the evening of the 13th.

This monstrosity of a bill grew from about 600 pages to 1100 pages during secretive sessions which excluded Republican conferees and the floor votes took place with 24 hours of the release of the full 1100 page text.

The public obviously did not have the time to see it! No Member of the House and Senate had the time to read it before voting on it!

And as of Sunday, February 16, the bill is still NOT posted on the White House website. Links to the "Conference Report" were posted (which, by the way did not work when we attempted to click on them) and the "Joint Explanatory Statement" appear, but no bill.

Whatever happened to "five days?" So much for transparency and sunshine!

Do As We Say, Not As We Do!

Congress is doling out relief (more pork courtesy of the American taxpayer) and attempting to put conditions on the acceptance of the money.

One of the more recent conditions is a $500,000 salary cap for company executives.

Will Congress be practicing the restraint they advocate for others? It's highly unlikely.

Ed Duffy with the Denver Examiner made the following observation:

"Congress is doling out relief with the requirement that companies limit their salaries and dividends and cut back on expenses."

"In true Washington form, Congress just gave itself a huge increase in its own expense accounts. The Member Representation Allowance for House members ranges from $1.3 million to $1.6 million per member. It's increased every year, usually by about $30,000. This year, while the rest of the country is tightening their belts, the Member Representation Allowance is going up by a whopping $90,000.

"Senators receive more than twice what House members receive to cover things like office staff, travel and other expenses.

"To say that Congress is spending like drunken sailors would be a gross understatement of the thriftiness of drunken sailors. The spending spree that the Federal government is in the midst of now has no equal in human history."

Liberals in Congress admonished the executives of large corporations for using private jets, but what about Nancy Pelosi's "private jet?"

Radio talk-show host Sean Hannity recently commented:

"If everyone's so angry at corporate jet use and corporations that have perks, why isn't there that same anger at Speaker Pelosi?"

Media personality Lou Dobbs commented as well and apparently, Pelosi is not too happy about it:

"Man, her office was on me because I was giving her fits over the fact she had to have that great big old airplane, 'cause she had to get home to her constituents every weekend - crazy stuff."

If this is the era of change; tell Obama that he can keep the change!
