Radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh warns: “We could reach a point where Obama controls TV and radio.” TV and radio commentator Glenn Beck asks: “Is there any place (that has a mass audience) where the government won’t regulate free speech?” That's because Barack Obama's recently appointed Diversity Czar, Mark Lloyd, appears to be looking to wage a regulatory campaign to silence conservative voices on talk radio, cable TV and maybe even the Internet... in other words, an all out effort to stifle dissent of the Administration’s radical agenda. Diversity Czar Mark Lloyd, whose official job title is Associate General Counsel and Chief Diversity Officer of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), makes no secret of his desire to stamp out freedom of speech and of the press. “It should be clear by now that my focus... is not freedom of speech or the press. This freedom is all too often an exaggeration. At the very least, blind references to freedom of speech or the press serve as a distraction from the critical examination of other communications policies.” "Freedom of speech" an "exaggeration" ... "A distraction from the critical examination of communications policies" ... ? No, this is not a joke. And yes, there's more. Consider the following exchange between Glenn Beck and the Media Research Center’s Seton Motley, as they discussed the stranglehold Diversity Czar (and that's not our term for him either) Mark Lloyd wants to impose on conservative talk radio. Beck: “Tell me exactly what his plan is...." Motley: “His plan is to use the nebulous FCC regulations of media diversity and localism to travel alternative routes to arrive at the same destination as the Fairness Doctrine, which is to shut you up by shutting you down. He wants to assault the radio industry to effect an ideological outcome.” Is media expert Motley exaggerating? No, he’s basing his assessment on Lloyd’s own words and socialist beliefs. In fact, according to Cliff Kincaid, editor of Accuracy in the Media: “Accuracy in Media, which published the book, ‘The Death of Talk Radio?,’ has been warning for years that the liberal/left has a plan to silence conservative media voices. Just before last November’s election, President Obama said: “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America." It's becoming more and more clear, with each passing day, that Obama wants to transform our nation into something unrecognizable to most patriotic Americans... more akin to something that would be familiar to a third-world tyrant like Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez. Hugo Chavez declared during one of his customary rants on state TV. He added that if he and Cuba's Fidel Castro weren't 'careful, 'they might 'end up to [Obama's] right.'" And Diversity Czar Mark Lloyd has directly lavished high praise on Chavez and his iron-fisted tactics in Venezuela. According to Kincaid: “At a 2008 ‘media reform’ conference sponsored by the George Soros-funded Free Press organization, Lloyd declared that the Marxist revolution in Venezuela under Chavez was ‘incredible’ and ‘dramatic’ but that the ‘property owners and the folks who were then controlling the media in Venezuela rebelled’ against the would-be dictator and supported a coup against him. However, Lloyd said that Chavez wised up and ‘then started to take the media seriously...’" “The implication of these remarks is that Chavez dealt with his opponents in the media by trying to control or silence them, and that Lloyd supports that strategy when dealing with opponents of revolutionary Marxism here in the U.S.” Lloyd’s words are shameful. They’re shocking – even coming from an Administration that long ago exceeded its capacity to shock us. The clock is ticking. In his book Democracy in America, Alexis de Tocqueville compared American democracy with socialism by writing: “Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.” Lloyd seeks "equality," but he’s not interested in equality of opportunity. Rather, Lloyd wants equality of outcome... or as de Tocqueville wrote, "equality in restraint and servitude." And there can be no doubt, when you read Lloyd's own words, he believes that his brand of "equality" should be brought about through the seizure of private property. Lloyd freely expresses his disgust at the concept of private ownership of media. He asserts that, in communications; “Corporate liberty has overwhelmed citizen equality,” and he adds: “[T]he purpose of free speech [has been] warped to protect global corporations and block rules that would promote democratic governance... [T]he problem is not only... free speech, but that the government has abandoned its role of advancing the communications capabilities of real people.” But the best (or rather worst) is yet to come. Lloyd apparently has no issue using the heavy and brutal hand of government to achieve his goals: “The American republic requires the active deliberation of a diverse citizenry, and this, I argue, can be ensured only by our government... Put another way, providing for the equal capability of citizens to participate effectively in democratic deliberation is our collective responsibility." There can be no mistake, Lloyd’s words and actions over the years show that he's as radical – as fanatical – as another Obama crony, Bill Ayers, co-founder of the Weather Underground and a self-described “communist.” According to Ron Chepesiuk, author of, "Sixties Radicals, Then and Now: Candid Conversations With Those Who Shaped the Era," Ayers made the following statement during a candid interview: "I am a radical, Leftist, small 'c' communist ... [Laughs] Maybe I'm the last communist who is willing to admit it. [Laughs] We have always been small 'c' communists...." Ayers may consider communism a laughing matter… Lloyd may detest freedom, including that of speech and of the press, and hold dictators like Chavez in high regard…. But both of them, along with many others working in this Administration, are clearly out of touch with the American people and the principles on which our great nation was founded. Lloyd wants America to discard its historic commitment to individual liberty... and replace it with “collective responsibility.” That’s classic Marxism. In a 1996 book, Lloyd wrote that government is “the only institution” that can manage public communications... and that government must “ensure” everyone has equal access to communications media (again, remember how radical leftists like Lloyd define "equality"). Ominously, while Lloyd’s bizarre assertions conflict totally with the Constitution, they are probably right in line with Obama’s own thinking. In 2001, Obama condemned the Supreme Court because: “It [has] never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society.” And that's not all Obama has said about the High Court: “[Even] the [Earl] Warren Court . . .wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as it’s been interpreted. And the Warren Court [believed]... that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties — says what the states can’t do to you — says what the Federal government can’t do to you — but it doesn’t say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf." Examine Obama’s words carefully. They portray the Constitution as imposing “constraints,” and he thinks we should "break free" from these "constraints." Let's not mince words. Men like Obama and Lloyd don't want to hush Rush (or Sean Hannity or Laura Ingraham or Glenn Beck) simply because they don't like voices of opposition. There's much more to it. They hold a belief that government must be involved in every part of our private lives. Think about it… from government-dictated energy policies to government-run health care; government control is central to the Administration’s entire agenda. Is Mark Lloyd just one more crackpot in an Administration filled with radicals and semi-crazed theoreticians? Of course, to a Mark Lloyd – and to a Barack Obama who complains consistently about FOX News and Limbaugh – the fact that people are voting with their ears, eyes and minds for conservatives is intolerable. Should we tell Lloyd (and Obama) the truth – that the only forms of diversity that truly matter deal with values and ideas? Alas, they wouldn’t understand us. Leftists express contempt for those of us who exercise our First Amendment rights to assemble peacefully at town hall meetings. We offend them by using our freedoms, the same way that Limbaugh offends them. We offend them because we oppose government-run health care. We offend them because we don’t want more government; we demand less of it. In statement after statement, Mark Lloyd makes clear that he won’t rest easy until voices like those of Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham fade from the airwaves. The American people should not rest easy until men like Lloyd are collecting unemployment checks. Motley reminds us: “And now Lloyd works for the FCC.” Or does the FCC work for Mark Lloyd? Remember, Obama has already effectively nationalized the auto industry, major banks and insurance companies... and health care is next on their political dance card. Doing the same to the media, if you let him get away with it, would be child’s play. It’s time to let Congress and the White House know that the American people aren’t going to put up with efforts to eradicate the First Amendment.
